Hypoglycemia traditionally limits the optimal glycemic management for pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes. However, recent data derived from large registries reveal a trend toward concurrent improvements in A1c and decreasing severe hypoglycemia rates in pediatric populations with type 1 diabetes. What factors are driving these outcomes?

Dr David Maahs, division chief of the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, cites improved insulin formulations, technological advances, and support in effecting behavioral modifications as contributors to the decrease in hypoglycemia rates in this patient population.
