Currently, many clinicians intensify treatment for type 2 diabetes by a stepwise addition of medications to initial monotherapy as glycemic control weakens. However, recent studies support the strategy of starting with combination treatment for faster glycemic control. Despite evidence of benefit, treatment intensification is often delayed due to clinician hesitation.
