Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by a persistent decline in lung function that is associated with progressive symptoms, functional impairment, and a propensity for respiratory infections or exacerbations. It is estimated that between 300 and 400 million people currently live with COPD globally, and it is already the third leading cause of death worldwide. Dyspnea, cough, and/or sputum production are the most common symptoms. Most patients with COPD have significant comorbidities, which further increases morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to slowing disease progression and maximizing outcomes.

Can you identify COPD when you see it and take the necessary steps to help patients keep breathing? Test your knowledge with this quick quiz.
