A particularly promising study is responsible for this term’s increased popularity in searches this month. The PEGASUS-TIMI 54 trial examined long-term use of ticagrelor in preventing myocardial infarction in patients who had experienced an episode in the prior 1-3 years. The authors concluded that the drug significantly reduced the risk of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke.
