A political debate may have helped increase searches for this medication. Buprenorphine is used to treat individuals with opioid addictions. However, federal regulation prevents physicians from treating more than 100 patients at a time with the medication. With the demand for treatment exceeding capacity, congress is investigating what steps to take regarding use of this drug.
