The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) task force also identified the following comorbidities as increasing the risk for morbidity and mortality in patients with SLE:

  • Infections

  • Hypertension

  • Lipid disorders (dyslipidemia), atherosclerosis, and coronary heart disease

  • Diabetes mellitus

  • Bone-related conditions: osteoporosis, avascular bone necrosis

  • Malignancies, such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma, lung cancer, and hepatobiliary cancer
