Each week, we identify one top search term, speculate as to what caused its popularity, and provide an infographic on a related condition. If you have thoughts about what's trending and why, feel free to share them with us on Twitter or Facebook!
Clinical Trend of the Week (November 20-27): Stellate Ganglion Block PTSD
An old treatment that found new purpose was this week's top search term. Stellate ganglion block has been used to treat migraines and chronic pain since the 1920s. That same treatment has now been found to be effective in helping patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Eugene Lipov has administered this treatment to more than 2200 patients at various military hospitals, with a success rate in excess of 70%. Considering the devastating toll PTSD can have on individuals, interest in any potential means to treat this condition is understandably high.
