Clinical Trend of the Week (June 18-June 24): Schizophrenia

A potentially inspiring study about the resilience of the brain inspired our top search this week. A neuroimaging study found that the brains of patients with schizophrenia may have the ability to counter the effects of the disease. Lead investigator Lena Palaniyappan, MBBS, PhD, expressed hope that strategies could be developed that would harness the brain's plasticity, allowing for treatment and reversal of some features that are currently believed to be irreversible. The hope is that these findings are not only novel but will contribute to targeted treatments that may address elements of the core pathology of schizophrenia.
