In viral meningitis, the opening pressure is 90-200 mm H2O and the WBC count is 10-300/µL. Although the glucose concentration is typically normal, it can be low or normal in meningitis from lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCM), herpes simplex virus (HSV), mumps virus, and poliovirus. The protein concentration tends to be slightly elevated, but it can be within the reference range.
