Current recommendations include two A viruses in the 2016-2017 trivalent vaccine used in the Northern Hemisphere. These include an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus and an A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2)-like virus. A B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus (B/Victoria lineage) is also recommended. Quadrivalent vaccines are recommended to contain the viruses included in the trivalent vaccine and a B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus (B/Yamagata lineage). The influenza A(H3N2) component is a change from the 2015-2016 vaccine, and the influenza B lineage included in the trivalent vaccine is also different. The 2016 Southern Hemisphere seasonal influenza vaccine is the same as the 2016-2017 Northern Hemisphere vaccine.
