Hib vaccine is not routinely administered in healthy children age 5 years or older. However, one dose is recommended in children age 5 years or older or in adults who have anatomic or functional asplenia (including sickle cell disease). Anyone undergoing HSCT should be vaccinated with a three-dose regimen of Hib vaccine 6-12 months after transplant, regardless of a history of vaccination. One dose of Hib vaccine is recommended in unvaccinated individuals with HIV infection age 5-18 years.
