Clinical Trend of the Week (September 3-9): Gout

What you eat can matter to your feet, leading to this week's top search term. A new study found that the DASH diet lowers elevated serum uric acid levels almost as much as medications in those at risk for gout. The diet, which was designed for blood pressure control, lowered uric acid by 1.3 mg/dL in adults, similar to the effects that medication has. This option for patients battling the painful condition drew the attention of users this week, resulting in a sharp uptick in searches.
