Clinical Trend of the Week (October 8-14): Kratom Ban
A ban that never was resulted in this week's top search term. The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) had announced intent to designate the herbal supplement kratom a schedule I drug by September 30. However, that decision was delayed after some kratom users and researchers joined members of Congress in expressing concern about proceeding without public input. A petition signed by more than 140,000 people urged the White House to avoid the new scheduling. No doubt, the passionate outcry garnered the attention of clinicians, resulting in this week's top search.
