Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, or nonprescription drugs, are typically safe. However, if used outside of recommendations, they can become dangerous. Although less potent than most prescription drugs, OTC medications can still be abused and become addictive. This can lead to problems such as kidney failure, heart conditions, memory loss, or even death.
