Pregnancy tests should always be performed to rule out pregnancy in female patients who present with amenorrhea, which occurs in up to 50% of women with bulimia nervosa. Many of the remaining 50% of patients have irregular or scanty periods. Imaging and neuropsychological testing are not routinely recommended for diagnosing bulimia nervosa.
