The median age for MCL diagnosis ranges between 60 and 70 years. White persons are at higher risk of developing NHLs than are Black and Asian persons. The male-to-female ratio is 3:1.

No causative factor has been identified for MCL or for most patients with NHL of other types. MCL has been associated with living/working on farms, polymorphisms in IL-10, autoimmune diseases, and family history.
