"Probiotics" is a term that refers to living microorganisms designed to confer health benefits on their host. The most well-known and commonly studied species include Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Saccharomyces. From such products as yogurts or kombucha to over-the-counter pills that claim therapeutic benefits, probiotics are increasing in popularity.
