Background

A 33-year-old woman presents to her primary care provider owing to a "lump" in the volar aspect of her right wrist. The lump started off as painless; however, over the course of 1 year, the patient progressively developed significant pain in the volar aspect of her right hand and wrist. The pain was associated with wrist paresthesias as well as decreased strength. She reports that she was limited at her job, where she works as a receptionist, and also has impaired routine functions of daily life.

She has no significant medical history. She does not report taking any medications. She does not describe any family history that is pertinent to her medical condition.
