Cancer mortality continues to decline in the United States, with a 26% decrease in 2015 compared with the peak rate in 1991. In part, this increased survival can be attributed to advances in early detection. Screening for certain cancers allows for early detection and treatment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supports screening for breast, cervical, colon, and lung cancers as recommended by the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).
