Worldwide, more than 1 million STDs are acquired every day. Among the most common are chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, trichomoniasis, and human papillomavirus (HPV). In some cases, STDs can have serious health consequences beyond the immediate impact of the infection itself.
