A study found that 79% of physicians and 82% of nurses recommend dietary supplements, including vitamins, to their patients. This is despite research suggesting that most supplements do not help prevent or treat cardiovascular disease and despite the fact that certain use is associated with increased all-cause mortality. Moreover, in 2017, 60,000 instances of vitamin toxicity were reported to US poison control centers.
