The average age of onset of hidradenitis suppurativa is 23 years. However, the time of onset can range from 11 to 50 years. The disease rarely occurs before the age of 11 years; even more rarely, it may occur prior to puberty. When prepubertal onset occurs, severe symptoms are not uncommon.
