Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, progressive skin disease of the hair follicle that typically occurs in seemingly healthy adults and adolescents. What begins as erythema progresses to recurrent, painful, inflamed lesions and scarring; arthropathy may appear with variable clinical features. Hidradenitis suppurativa is associated with a range of comorbidities and secondary diseases, including obesity, systemic amyloidosis, and squamous cell carcinoma. Complications such as local and systemic infections and restricted mobility may also ensue.
