Physical activity is recommended for patients with asthma, and if needed, patients can use a short-acting beta-2 agonist and/or cromolyn metered-dose inhaler 15-30 minutes before exercise.

Because pollen counts are highest during midday and in the afternoon, patients who desire to exercise outdoors are advised to do so during other times of day. Aerobic exercise has been shown to improve airway physiology and patient-perceived dyspnea.
