Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare and chronic autoimmune disorder of the connective tissue. International prevalence estimates of SSc range from 2 to 10 persons per million. There are two major types: In limited SSc (lSSc), a patient's condition can be stable for years. However, in diffuse SSc (dSSc), the disease can rapidly lead to death, if it is not treated promptly.
