Bladder cancer, a common urologic cancer, has the highest recurrence rate of any cancer. Globally, approximately 550,000 new cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed and nearly 200,000 deaths from bladder cancer occur each year. Whereas non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer has a good prognosis, metastatic urothelial bladder cancer has a poor prognosis; even for patients who receive second-line chemotherapy, the estimated 2-year survival rate ranges from 5% to 10%. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential to improve outcomes in bladder cancer.
