Personality disorders are generally grouped into three clusters. Individuals can be diagnosed with more than one personality disorder, often from the same cluster. Narcissistic personality disorder is a cluster B disorder and must be distinguished from the other conditions in that group, which include the following:

  • Antisocial personality disorder

  • Borderline personality disorder

  • Histrionic personality disorder

Cluster A includes paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal personality disorders. Cluster C includes avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders.
