Nasal polyps are the most frequently occurring tumors of the nasal cavity. In most cases, patients present with nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, sinus infection, and prolonged anosmia, all of which can greatly affect quality of life. Although the precise etiology of polyp formation is unknown, research has suggested that an eosinophil-mediated mechanism with damage to the mucosa by major basic protein may be involved. However, the complicated interplay of secondary messengers and chemical mediators is not yet fully understood.
