Biomarkers are measurable characteristics that can help identify a particular pathophysiologic process or disease. The presence of a Th2 endotype is currently assessed using markers that include the sputum or blood eosinophil count, fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), and immunoglobulin (Ig) E.
Sputum neutrophils may provide some indication, but there is no reliable marker of a non-Th2 endotype.
