According to the Severe Asthma Research Program, four phenotypic clusters in adults are associated with high levels of eosinophils:
Early onset, mild, atopic
Early onset, moderate, atopic
Late onset, nonatopic, female, obese
Early onset, severe, atopic, reversible obstruction
Almost one third of these patients exhibit overlapping allergic and eosinophilic phenotypes, which can complicate finding the best treatment option.
