Type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease of both insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretion, is increasing worldwide. An estimated 463 million individuals were living with diabetes in 2019, and that figure is expected to rise to 578 million by 2030 and 700 million by 2045. Although type 2 diabetes can affect people at any age, it is most common in patients aged 45 years or older. Early detection and treatment of type 2 diabetes are essential for avoiding microvascular, macrovascular, and neuropathic complications and improving the morbidity and mortality associated with the disease.
