Type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease of both insulin resistance and inadequate insulin secretion, is increasing worldwide. An estimated 536.6 million (10.5%) individuals ages 20-79 years were living with diabetes in 2021, and that figure is expected to rise to 783.2 million (12.2%) by 2045. Although type 2 diabetes can affect people at any age, it is most common in patients aged 45 years or older. Early detection and treatment of type 2 diabetes are essential for avoiding microvascular, macrovascular, and neuropathic complications and improving the morbidity and mortality associated with the disease.
