Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects approximately 125 million individuals worldwide. It exerts a considerable burden on affected patients, including decreased quality of life and a significantly increased risk for multiple comorbidities, such as depression, psoriatic arthritis, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, overweight/obesity, hypertension, inflammatory bowel disease, and cardiovascular disease. Although psoriasis cannot be cured, multiple treatments are available for its management.
