Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic, multisystem inflammatory disorder chiefly involving the sacroiliac joints and the axial skeleton. The term nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) refers to patients who exhibit clinical symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis but do not display radiographic sacroiliitis. Long-term anti-inflammatory therapy is often needed to reduce morbidity from the disease.
