According to treatment guidelines from the American College of Rheumatology and the European League Against Rheumatism, tumor necrosis factor inhibitors may be considered when first-line treatment with NSAIDs is not sufficient for disease management. The guidelines also state that systemic glucocorticoids should not be used. Physical therapy is among their further recommendations.
