According to treatment guidelines from the American College of Rheumatology and the European League Against Rheumatism, tumor necrosis factor inhibitors may be considered when first-line treatment with NSAIDs is not sufficient for disease management. The guidelines also state that systemic glucocorticoids should not be used. Physical therapy is among their further recommendations.

Review the clinical practice guidelines from the American College of Rheumatology/Spondylitis Association of America/Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network and the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society/EULAR.
