Combination regimens are a fundamental component of ART. NRTIs, for example, have shown in clinical trials to exhibit a dose-response curve of ~1, indicative of noncooperative reactions. Conversely, PIs, NNRTIs, and fusion inhibitors exhibit a dose-response curve > 1. Slopes < 1 do not indicate adequate viral inhibition, requiring additional agents to attain adequate antiviral efficacy.
