The HHS Guidelines for the Use of Antiretroviral Agents in Adults and Adolescents with HIV emphasize the importance of screening and early diagnosis. To attain the optimal benefit and uptake of ART, the guidelines recommend immediate initiation of treatment after diagnosis or as soon as possible thereafter. This strategy decreases time to attainment of virologic suppression, reduces likelihood of transmission, and improves the rate of virologic suppression in treated patients.
