Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease that attacks myelinated axons in the central nervous system, leading to significant physical disability. The signs and symptoms of MS may include paresthesias, weakness, spasticity, visual loss, imbalance, pain, bladder and bowel dysfunction, cognitive difficulties, and psychiatric disturbances—most commonly depression. More than 2.1 million people are affected by MS worldwide. It can occur at any age but is usually diagnosed in persons aged 15-45 years.
