Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and second most common in women worldwide, according to Lewandowska and colleagues. A significant increase in the incidence of colorectal cancer in individuals < 50 years has been recently reported in the United States, various countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Invasive colorectal cancer is a preventable disease. Early detection through screening programs is key. Systemic therapy for colorectal cancer has also dramatically improved outcomes for patients with metastatic disease.
