The occurrence of cancer-associated VTE is a significant predictor of death within 1 year of cancer diagnosis. VTE is also one of the leading causes of death in patients with cancer receiving outpatient chemotherapy, and a diagnosis of VTE can delay or interrupt the initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy.
