Acute heart failure is characterized by rapid onset or deterioration of symptoms and/or signs of heart failure, frequently with decompensation of preexisting cardiomyopathy. It is a life-threatening medical emergency. Globally, both in-hospital and post-discharge mortality is high among patients with acute heart failure, ranging from 4% to 12% in-hospital to 20% to 36% post-discharge. Early diagnosis and intervention are essential for optimizing outcomes.
