Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic disease of unknown etiology that is generally associated with a poor prognosis. Although it is characterized by the involvement of a single organ, numerous comorbidities and complications can arise within other organ systems. Patients with IPF may have complications and comorbidities that influence the prognosis and natural course of their disease. Increasing evidence suggests that the early diagnosis and treatment of comorbidities is as crucial as the treatment of IPF itself.
