Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most significant long-term complications of diabetes and has become the leading cause of chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease worldwide. Diabetic nephropathy is a strong predictor of mortality; even in its early stages, the risks for cardiovascular events is significantly increased. Tight control of both glucose level and blood pressure are essential to the management of diabetic nephropathy.
