The management of diabetic nephropathy is multifaceted and requires regular outpatient follow-up. Screening and treatment for other complications associated with diabetes, such as retinopathy, diabetic foot, and cardiovascular disease, is essential to optimize outcomes. Intensive therapy can stabilize or even reverse microalbuminuria; additionally, it can partially, but not fully, reverse glomerular hypertrophy and hyperfiltration.
