According to BASHH guidelines, testing for M genitalium is recommended for all women with signs and symptoms of cervicitis or PID. CDC guidelines recommend testing in women with recurrent/persistent PID.

M genitalium testing is also recommended for individuals with nongonococcal urethritis.

BASHH guidelines recommend testing for M genitalium among the current sexual partners of infected individuals.
