Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, inflammatory, immune-mediated disease with an estimated global prevalence of 0.46% (95% CI, 0.39-0.54; I2 = 99.9%) with a 95% prediction interval (0.06-1.27). Although one of the hallmarks of RA is symmetric polyarthritis, there are a variety of other clinical manifestations associated with this disease. Since no one test or physical finding alone is pathognomonic or definitive for RA, the diagnosis is based on clinical, imaging, and laboratory features.
