Formerly known as "agnogenic myeloid metaplasia," primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a bone marrow and blood cancer in which a clonal disorder arises from the neoplastic transformation of early hematopoietic stem cells. One of a heterogeneous group of myeloproliferative diseases, myelofibrosis is characterized by anemia, bone marrow fibrosis, extramedullary hematopoiesis, leukemic progression, and splenomegaly.
