The effects of acute vitamin D toxicity are characteristic of hypercalcemia. Symptoms may include:

  • Apathy

  • Confusion

  • Recurrent vomiting

  • Abdominal pain

  • Polyuria

  • Polydipsia

  • Dehydration

Chronic vitamin D toxicity symptoms may also include constipation and backache. Other findings may also include calcinosis, followed by hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias (due to a shortened refractory period).
