Upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUTUC) is a malignant tumor arising from the urothelial (transitional) epithelial cells lining the renal calyces, renal pelvis, and ureter. UUTUC is estimated to occur in less than 1 in 5 urothelial cancers and less than 1 in 10 renal tumors; however, evidence suggests that the frequency of upper urinary tract cancer is increasing.
