Urothelial carcinoma, also known as "transitional cell carcinoma," is a malignant cancer that originates from the urothelial cells of the urinary tract. It accounts for about 95% of bladder cancers.
Clinical manifestations of bladder cancer include:
Painless gross hematuria: classic presentation; occurs in approximately 80%-90% of patients
Irritative bladder symptoms (eg, dysuria, urgency, frequency of urination): occur in 20%-30% of patients
Pelvic or bony pain, lower-extremity edema, weight loss, or flank pain: occurs in patients with advanced disease
Palpable mass on physical examination: rare in patients with superficial bladder cancer
